December 27, 1999 | Statement from Lycia's Mike Van Portfleet

"The last three weeks have been very difficult for me, and after much struggle with almost everything associated with the Empty Space sessions, I have aborted the release and disbanded Lycia. The reasons are many, with things evolving in this way for years now, so my decision to end Lycia was and is not rash...just overdue. As I said, there are so many reasons, but at the present I wish for all these details to remain private. The initial Empty Space sessions did produce five finished and four partially completed songs though, but as for now that material will be shelved. I am also going to delay Lycium Music's first release (Estraya: The Time Has Come And Gone) for awhile, perhaps indefinitely. For me personally, I plan to take an extended (or maybe even permanent) break from music. Both Tara Vanflower and David Galas plan to continue on though...Tara Vanflower with her solo work. She will be playing live next summer, with a July 7th date at the Cornerstone Festival already confirmed. David Galas is currently rebuilding his studio with plans to start recording soon. I'm not sure of John Fair's music plans."
